Running books can inspire, inform, and mentor you to more enjoyable running or faster times. From beginners seeking advice, to the experienced runners looking for an edge, books for runners cover tips on style, mileage, training programs, diet, racing, and stories that entertain and motivate. Here are list of running books we recommend.

Cathy’s book is about staying active at any age. Designed for non-exercisers to Olympians, MOVE! helps women achieve athletic goals they never imagined possible. Long-May-You-Run-Book.jpgLong May You Run by Chris Cooper

Chris Cooper’s book Long May You Run, intersperses advice on every aspect of running with inspiring quotes, personal anecdotes, and running hall of fame articles.

Along with the customary training advice Chris includes these gems; running in traffic, running in dirty air, running under a full moon, running with your dog, and avoiding dog bites (a necessity for all runners!)

Stories such as “If a Superstar Chef Can Do It” and “If Trisha and David Can Do It, So Can You” provide additional motivation for running. Concise and well-laid out, Cooper’s advice is friendly and practical. A great tool for runners of all ages and at all stages. Visit Chris Cooper’s website to order Long May You Run.

Born-To-Run-Book.jpgBorn To Run by Christopher McDougall

This is a running book for all distance-running junkies. You’ll probably recognize aspects of yourself or the personality traits of some of your running mates among this collection of passionate and odd-ball/eccentric runners.

While many have hailed this book as the new bible for barefoot running, it is the marvelous tale of Tarahumara Indians and their joy of no frills running that enthralls.

My copy is worn and dog-eared from years of usage. It has been a wonderful companion and guide as I’ve progressed as a runner. You can order this book on Amazon. While there check out the other titles by these talented and knowledgeable runners.

Basically, the form reduces the impact on your joints and allows your leg muscles to work less when you run.
