Then at 59 Leslie took up the challenge of running. She felt slow, it often hurt. It didn’t come easily but encouraged by her new friends in the running community she stuck it out when others gave up. Leslie discovered a whole new world and a way of life. Now she’s hooked. Angie-Miyashiro

At 5 foot 1 and 84 pounds, Angie Miyashiro, looks almost elfin. But don’t be deceived, this woman is a ball of muscle, lifts hardcore weights and can run forever. Whatever she takes on, it’s at full force.

Angie caught my eye in July 2009, at the USATF Masters T&F Champs. Who was this tiny, almost child-like woman, with blond surfer hair, a bohemian style, adorned with beads and leather bracelets? Read about Angie here...

Dec 5, 2009, How to Nix Stress Fractures

Got an email from a woman who just ran the Chicago marathon and ended up with a hip stress fracture. She had a history of stress fractures and sought help from a nutritionist and fitness trainer. She was smart and started her marathon training 10 months in advance, to take it nice and slow. And still got a stress fracture. How frustrating!

This week two new studies on stress fractures were released. Here’s my summary of the research and some fixes you might want to try.
