All runners need variety, and many are still planning their racing year. A triathlon builds on your running base and can strengthen you in the meantime. The Buddy System

There’s nothing like a buddy to share the pleasures and “half” the pains of training – and to reach your best. In 20 years of coaching, I’ve found that a buddy is as important as a coach to achieving running goals. A buddy adds to the accountability and commitment to stick with the training process….and provides a second opinion, support, and makes training week-to-week more fun.

Claudine Nicholas

Claudine Nicholas was born a creative, curious type with a daredevil streak and always loved sports. She was an excellent swimmer at an early age, played several team sports, medaled in downhill snow skiing, backpacked 80 miles across the Continental Divide, went parasailing and skydiving.

By age 23 however; she could no longer ignore the severe pain in all her joints, the draining fatigue and near constant low-grade fever.

Competitive Running & “Muscle In The Bank”

Until recently, most studies have shown that after age 40 people lose 8 to 10% of their muscle mass each decade – and that after 70 that decline accelerates. Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.

Those messages from Steve Jobs – the Apple Inc. co-founder, chairman, and chief executive officer who died this past Wednesday from the ravages of pancreatic cancer – apply to running too.
