Bravo Anne !

by Pam
(Johannesburg, South Africa)

I commend any woman who tackles the Comrades for the first time! One just has to drive along the route to appreciate how tough it is, let alone run it. The Down-run (from Pietermaritzburg) down to Durban at the coast has quite a few up hills and rumour has it that the Down-run can be more damaging (physically)because of the impact on the joints.

Be warned, anyone attempting and completing the Comrades is bound to be back and become addicted.

I have been watching Comrades from the couch for about 30 years and find it so inspiring that everytime I undertake to run it the following year, but never do!

It takes a lot of legwork and guts to even qualify for the race (a sub-5 hour standard marathon), let alone run the distance!

I salute you Anne and all those tough ladies out there, and who knows, maybe one day, before my time runs out, I will attempt to run this race !

Next year will be another Down-run and 20 000 entries are expected!

Kind regards

Pam Immelman

Amazing Anne

by Karen Coull
(Ballarat, Australia)

Anne you’re amazing. I’ll always remember your supportive advice for my first Half Marathon. On how important it is to think positive thoughts to get through the race. That's a lot of happy thoughts to get through the Comrades!!!

Anne also paces groups for the Melbourne Marathon and has hosted many Richmond Women's brunches. She’s such a lovely, supportive and encouraging person.

Ann'e Courage

by Julie Rennie
(Melbourne, Australia)

Anne Ziogas is one courageous woman. I am a member of the same running club in Australia as Anne. I had my first baby at age 31 and was feeling a bit down about the physical changes to my post baby body. Anne decided to meet with me twice a week to motivate me back to running. It worked and her companionship was a blessing. I will always remember her kindness and friendship to get me going again. Well done Anne...keep running.
